Equity Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Statement
Our commitment
Our vision for EDI is of a world where every seriously ill child – and their families – have access to the best care and medical research when they need it most, coupled with the best advocates to stand alongside them.
We know that achieving equity, diversity, and inclusion is critical to ensuring that as many people as possible can contribute to and benefit from our work and to building a culture where our people thrive and feel a sense of belonging.
At Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity), we believe that no person should be held back by any aspect of their identity, whether that be ethnicity, age, sex, gender, disability, religion or belief, partnership status, or social class.
We're unwavering in our commitment to fostering an environment where equity is promoted, diversity is valued and celebrated, and everyone feels included. We're guided by our values (we care, we are curious, and we are courageous) and continuously learn and adapt to ensure EDI is embedded in everything we do. We invite all our partners and supporters to join us in this work.
Our responsibility
Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (“GOSH Charity”) complies with the Equality Act 2010 (the “Act”) and understands our duties under it. As an organisation, we treat any reports of discrimination seriously. Should such a report arise, GOSH Charity will ensure it is swiftly investigated and appropriate action is taken in line with our internal policies and procedures.
We expect all our third-party suppliers and partners to commit to treating their workforce with dignity and respect, in addition to complying with the Act.
Our EDI Principles
We need to work collectively to bring our EDI vision to life. We recently launched the charity’s second EDI strategy, expanding our EDI work into everything we do and highlighting its fundamental importance within our organisational purpose.
We will use the following principles to build on this:
Child and family-focused
We'll centre the voices of seriously ill children and their families in our planning and ensure they are at the heart of our decision-making to increase our impact.
Data-driven
We collect and monitor data across the charity to understand where we are doing well and where we need to improve. We're transparent about this and will turn this insight into action plans.
Self-reflective
We work from a place of self-reflection to build cultural humility through long-term learning and accountability. We focus on our own personal and cultural biases, while seeking to understand different lived experiences.
Action-oriented
We empower all at GOSH Charity to turn insight, awareness, and learning into action and impactful initiatives to work towards our vision for EDI.
Collaborative
We work collaboratively and partner with other organisations across the charity sector and beyond to share good practices and learn from others to achieve long-term change.
