Today, Monday 28 February, we're joining organisations from all over the world in celebrating Rare Disease Day. It’s an occasion to raise awareness and inspire change for those living with rare diseases.

This year we celebrate GOSH's 170th birthday, marking almost two centuries of transforming the lives of seriously ill children. Here we chat to Ant (pictured above with daughter Amelia), one of those children now grown up.

Ethan came to Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) at just five months old. He spent his first-ever Christmas attached to a Ventricular Assist Device (VAD), or Berlin Heart, which kept him alive. 

The first child to be treated in the UK with gene therapy celebrates his 21st birthday this week, twenty years after having the pioneering treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH).
