We're Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity). We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children the best chance and the best childhoods possible. We do it by funding ground breaking research, cutting-edge medical equipment and life-changing support. For the children from all over the UK who are treated by Great Ormond Street Hospital every day. For children with rare or complex illnesses everywhere. For this generation and all those to come. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to serious illness.
Be part of it.
The 2025 TCS London Marathon
On Sunday 27 April 2025, over 450 runners will be taking on 26.2 miles for TeamGOSH, all raising money for seriously ill children at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
How you’ll make a difference
Do you enjoy being part of amazing experiences that help others create memorable memories, and want to be part of the iconic TCS London Marathon? This is the role for you.
We’d like you to offer your time to help us cheer on our incredible GOSH Charity runners who are taking on the London Marathon. By joining the GOSH Charity team you’ll help to create an amazing atmosphere along the route, keeping our runners motivated.
We're looking for a group of individuals to join and support our amazing Challenge Events team. The Challenge Events team sits within GOSH Charity’s Mass Participation team. We work with challenge event partners, like the London Marathon, to provide GOSH Charity supporters to take on amazing challenges in aid of GOSH Charity.
What’s involved?
You'll be supporting TeamGOSH participants at one of our three cheer stations on the day. All of our cheer stations are based in London, and your role will be to cheer on our runners as they pass, helping us given them a fantastic on the day experience and an extra boost to get them across the finish line.
Exact roles and timings will be allocated closer to the event day, however all our volunteers are valuable and important in making the event a success. Our cheer station locations are;
- Cutty Sark (Mile 7) – Approx timings 9am – 1.30pm
- Crossharbour (Mile 17) – Approx timings 11am - 4pm
- Embankment (Mile 24) – Approx timings (Group 1; 11.30am-3.30pm, Group 2; 2.30pm-6.30pm)
What can you gain from volunteering in this role?
- Join an enthusiastic team, meet new people, and experience supporting a mass participation charity event
- Use and develop your event-specific skills, enhancing your CV if that is important to you
- Knowing that you are helping seriously ill children, and their families have access to care and support.
Training and support
- Ongoing dedicated support from the Senior Challenge Events Executive, who is managing the London Marathon for GOSH Charity
- Regular updates how your support is making a difference
- Pre event briefing information via email and briefing on-the-day from the cheer station lead
- Volunteering Policy and Volunteer Handbook
What we're looking for
- Ability to follow our policies and procedures to keep you, our staff and volunteers, our patients and our supporters safe
- Ability to represent GOSH Charity and our values positively.
- Aged 18 or over and interested in volunteering for GOSH Charity
What we offer in return
- Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses in line with GOSH Charity guidelines
- Training and support as outlined above
- A reference if you request it.
Equality and diversity
GOSH Charity recognises the strengths of equity, diversity, and inclusion – and how a diverse group of volunteers can help us reflect our diverse patients and families. Therefore, we particularly welcome applicants from a range of different backgrounds.
We also recognise that disabled people, or those with long-term health conditions, may need some support from us to volunteer. We're more than happy to make reasonable adjustments and cater to your needs.
