Help heal a heart this Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is always special at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). It’s when the hospital first opened its doors in 1852.
Now, every year, more than 8,000 children are treated for cardiac conditions at GOSH – kids like Jemimah-Rose, pictured above. Some of these children are in recovery after having intricate surgeries, while others wait for a new heart.
By supporting our Valentine’s Appeal, you can help ensure each child has the best chance and the best childhood possible.
As well as funding essential services, your support helps fund the latest medical equipment and breakthrough medical research, to help ensure no childhood is lost to serious illness.
Your gift today could:
- Fund research into new treatments for the most complex childhood illnesses
- Keep families together with free accommodation near the hospital
- Fund cutting-edge medical equipment that gives children a better chance at life
- Support essential services like the Play team and Chaplaincy service
Donate now and help heal more hearts, this Valentine’s Day and beyond.
Meet Jemimah-Rose
By supporting our Valentine's Appeal, you'll help children like Jemimah-Rose.
Jemimah-Rose’s story begins before she was born, when she was diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome during a 20-week scan.
Her heart was critically underdeveloped, and doctors told her parents she would need three surgeries, the first at GOSH when she was just nine days old.
For two months, while Jemimah-Rose recovered from the surgery, her parents stayed in free family accommodation, close to their daughter. The Play team supported them with toys and books and helped them bond as a family, while the Chaplaincy service provided crucial spiritual support.
“The support we got at GOSH was incredible. They even arranged a traditional Nigerian naming ceremony in the hospital chapel.”
Help heal more hearts
Today, Jemimah-Rose’s journey isn’t over: she faces one more surgery before her second birthday. But for now, her parents are enjoying every moment with their child. And for Jemimah-Rose, every moment is a milestone.
We need your support now more than ever to help care for more children like Jemimah-Rose.
Please support our Valentine's Appeal today to fund vital research, equipment and family support services that give children with serious heart conditions the best chance and the best childhood possible.
