Give hope to families facing heartbreak

Valentine’s Day is always special at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). It’s when the hospital first opened its doors in 1852.

Now, every year, more than 8,000 children are treated for cardiac conditions at GOSH – kids like Jemimah-Rose, pictured above. Some of these children are in recovery after having intricate surgeries, while others wait for a new heart.

When young hearts are at risk, every second counts. Every measurement matters. Every decision is crucial. This Valentine's Day, will you help to fund a new cardiac output monitoring kit and give more children like Jemimah-Rose their best chance at life?

These kits can provide instant, accurate readings of a child's heart function, which allows for faster, more informed decisions in critical moments.

Donate now and help to fund this vital new equipment for kids with complex heart conditions.

Meet Jemimah-Rose

Last spring, Montelle and Samuel arrived at their baby’s 20-week scan full of excitement. But the joyful moment didn’t last. Their sonographer spotted an issue and their baby, Jemimah-Rose, was diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome – her heart was critically underdeveloped.

When Jemimah-Rose was born, medical teams at GOSH sprang into action. In those first critical hours, monitoring her fragile heart was essential. She needed surgery, and doctors needed to track her heart function precisely to stabilise her condition. Every moment mattered.

For two months, while Jemimah-Rose recovered from the surgery, her parents stayed in free family accommodation, close to their daughter. The Play team supported them with toys and books and helped them bond as a family, while the Chaplaincy service provided crucial spiritual support.

“Our baby having heart surgery at 9 nine days old was so frightening. But the care GOSH gave was incredible.”

Today, Jemimah-Rose’s journey isn’t over: she faces one more surgery before her second birthday. But for now, her parents are enjoying every moment with their child. And for Jemimah-Rose, every moment is a milestone.

Every day at GOSH, medical teams care for children with the most complex cardiac conditions from across the UK. Your donation can help to ensure they get access to the best possible care and most advanced medical equipment.

Please support our Valentine's Appeal today to help give children with serious heart conditions the best chance and the best childhood possible.
