Funeral and memorial collections

Funeral and memorial collections

Thank you so much for thinking of the children at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) at your loved one’s funeral, memorial service, or celebration of life.

By asking family and friends to donate to Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity), you can celebrate a special connection to the hospital or simply recognise the care and compassion your loved one had.

How do I hold a funeral collection?

There are a few options when organising your funeral collection, depending on what works best for you and the funeral you’re organising:

  • If you’re using a funeral director to help organise a funeral, they may be able to help with the collection and pay in the donations on your behalf. Ask your funeral director about the options they have and tell them you’d like to raise money for GOSH Charity.
  • If you’d like to organise a collection yourself, you can email us to request collection envelopes so that friends and family can make private, physical donations or you can set up an online donation page.

Online donations at a funeral

An online donation page is a simple way for your friends and family to donate and can be shared with those who can’t attend the funeral.

You can add photos of your loved one and share their life story, while those donating can also share memories or messages for you.

You can also download a QR code which can be used on an order of service, memorial video, or remembrance card, so that those attending the funeral can donate easily.

Your funeral director may also have other options for online donation pages.

How can I ask for donations at a funeral?

You know best how you’d like to share your request with your family and friends. However, some common ways that people ask for donations include:

  • Including in a funeral notice or funeral invitations a request for donations in lieu of flowers
  • Printing a request for donations in an Order of service or funeral booklet
  • Printing a request for donations in a remembrance card or prayer card
  • Asking someone to make an announcement during the funeral, sharing the request for donations and explaining why you have chosen GOSH Charity for your loved one
  • Making an announcement after the funeral at a wake or celebration of life event

How do I pay in donations from a funeral?
