Rebuilding and refurbishment
With the help of our supporters, we fund the building and refurbishment of child-focused facilities. This helps the medical teams at GOSH save even more young lives – and to help kids, be kids.
From the design, construction and fitout of new buildings, to renovating older areas, we help to give some of the UK’s most seriously ill children the best care and experience possible.
Whether it's new inpatient and intensive care beds, state-of-the-art operating theatres or all-important spaces for families to relax and play, we’re committed to the continued transformation of GOSH.
Read on for some examples of how we’ve helped to create world-leading, child-friendly spaces.

The new Children’s Cancer Centre
We’re building a new, world-leading Children’s Cancer Centre at GOSH, which will drive transformation in children’s cancer care and save more lives.
The development is the largest and most ambitious project we have ever undertaken. We’re pretty excited about it.
Cancer is the biggest killer of children aged one to 14 in the UK. We’re building the Children’s Cancer Centre to give more children the chance to lead happy, healthy lives. And to help improve the odds for children with cancer once and for all.
GOSH already has a dedicated team of experts who specialise in the most complex childhood cancers. But we need your help to bring that vision to life.

The Sight and Sound Centre
The GOSH Sight and Sound Centre, supported by Premier Inn, opened in 2021. It’s the home for Ophthalmology, Audiology and Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) services and Speech and Language Therapy outpatients at GOSH.
The opening of the centre meant patients and more than 100 clinicians could move from outdated spaces into state-of-the-art facilities.
Created in collaboration with children with sight and hearing loss, the centre is a welcoming, comfortable environment that is fully accessible and easy to navigate.
From bespoke artwork to a sensory garden with plants that children can see, touch, smell and hear, it’s all about helping kids, be kids.
Zayed Centre for Research into Rare Disease in Children
For many seriously ill children, research is their only hope – and GOSH has been at the forefront of many breakthroughs in children's medicine.
Opened in 2019, the Zayed Centre for Research into Rare Disease in Children continues this legacy. It brings together pioneering research and world-leading clinical care to drive new tests, treatments, and cures for children with rare and complex diseases from lab bench to bedside.
Experts from GOSH, the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health and the UCL Institute of Cardiovascular Science work together to help fight children’s rare diseases.
Mittal Children’s Medical Centre
The 240-bed Mittal Children’s Medical Centre transformed GOSH by moving children into modern wards with space for their parents and carers to stay overnight. It also houses cutting-edge surgical facilities.
The first part of the centre, the Morgan Stanley Clinical Building, opened to patients in 2012.
The seven-floor centre features wards for the treatment of children with kidney, brain, heart and lung conditions. There are also four advanced operating theatres, a play area and a restaurant area for staff and families.
The Premier Inn Clinical Building opened in 2018, completing the Mittal Children’s Medical Centre. It has contributed to the transformation of GOSH as a world-class hospital and has provided patients and families with a better hospital experience.
